Checking in from the road

What's my name again? What city am I in? It's Day 11 of the current tour and it's been an adventure everyday. I've met the most wonderful people and been reminded that while I love writing, it's meeting people and hearing their stories that makes the journey worthwhile.

Earlier today my publisher, Penguin, released this web video. It's a short interview montage we shot in NYC a month ago. Give it a look, and if it trips your trigger, please share!

Zzzzzzzzzzz. The early wake-up call awaits.

  1. I finished reading "The Cross Gardener" about three weeks ago. I have pondered a lot what I would like to say. As I watched your video today you said something to the effect that your hope was "it would stick with people and they would wonder if they had a cross gardener"...17 years ago we were gathered as a family quietly visiting and keeping watch as my father in-law fought for his last breath. Someone told me to get my mother in-law. As we stood around his bed, they linked pinkies and looked into each others eyes for just a second and then he was gone. I don't know who was there but it felt like the room was full of many wonderful angels. I think about that moment a lot, and as I read "The Cross Gardener" thought again about death and how short our time here on earth really is. I have renewed my efforts to be kinder, gentler and more loving to everyone around me. Even in the midst of chaos we all deserve to be reminded that we are loved. Jason, this book was beautiful, poignant and thought provoking. Thank you so much for sharing part of you with so many. Many people don't write about loss and I am so glad that your books put it in a way I can step back and see what others, or myself, have gone through in losing someone they love for a time. I believe we will see those who have passed on before us again and it will be grand!

  2. Thanks, Melanie! What a nice way to start my weekend. Now I just need you to tell 100,000 of your closest friends :)
