But I have to admit that part of the blessing is what we put into the experience. Last year, I was ready to pull my son out of school and homeschool him because I couldn't get his teachers to communicate with me and he was slowly sliding into the abyss of poor grades and low self-esteem. But being the stubborn woman I am, I couldn't react without first making a fuss, so I called a meeting with the new principal... who then called a meeting with my son's entire teaching team. Once we were able to meet face-to-face and discuss our expectations for each other as well as for my son (and we discovered that we were actually on the same team!), things improved. This year, my daughter has many of the same "horrible" teachers my son had last year... and I can honestly say she has some of the best teachers ever! It just took some extra effort on my part to get us there!Veronica Bartleshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04452926814324819692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2777228671585266718.post-18715679076811516932011-03-20T18:16:29.977-04:002011-03-20T18:16:29.977-04:00And as I've been saying for years - our public...And as I've been saying for years - our public schools are as good as we make them. If the parents choosing to home school would have put some of that time they now put into homeschooling into a public school week, or those paying enormous amounts for private schools, had donated some of that money to their public school, perhaps our public schools would be doing a lot better than they are. It wouldn't solve all problems for sure, but it would be a lot better than doing nothing and complaining about poor public education.Quinnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17345438923155713466noreply@blogger.com
